Designing Connection: The Story Behind Our Sushi Workshop

Designing a Sushi Class That Quietly Brings People Closer

Last week, as the workshop ended, I stood by the door and watched everyone slowly leave.
Some people lingered, saying,
“I want to bring my friend next time.”
Others were already adding each other on Instagram before stepping out the door.
And in that moment, I knew:
We did it.
But none of it happened by accident.
This was the result of a design journey that started from scratch.

We weren’t just planning an event.

We were designing a space where people could feel something real:)

Our intention was simple.

A good event shouldn’t just be about food or entertainment.
It should be something where people walk in as strangers—and walk out wanting to see each other again.

When we began designing experiences for companies, HR managers would often tell us:

“We’re looking for something truly different—not another dinner or team game.”

“Our departments don’t really know each other that well, but we need more trust. How can we create shared memories, fast?”

And individual participants often said something similar:

“I want something with a bit of culture and atmosphere—but not too heavy.”

“It’d be nice to meet people naturally, without forced conversations.”

These conversations became the starting point for everything.

Sushi was never the final goal—it was a beautiful excuse.

We didn’t choose sushi because it’s trendy or easy to photograph.
We chose it because it holds a rare quality:
you don’t need much language to work on something side by side.

It’s deeply cultural, but light in spirit.
It has structure, yet invites freedom.

We collaborated with a Japanese chef, studied the cultural context, and designed a slow, human-centered rhythm.
We broke down the workshop process and rebuilt it as a series of connection points:

  • How can the first interaction feel effortless?
  • When is the best moment to gently guide people into conversation?
  • Which ingredients could spark curiosity and dialogue?

We discovered something magical:
when people use their hands, their hearts tend to open up too.

“This was my favorite event in a long time.”

During our second official session, I stayed in the room the entire time, quietly watching everyone’s faces.
Within 30 minutes, the space was filled with laughter.

One content creator came up to me afterward and said:

“This was honestly my favorite event in a long time.
It didn’t feel like a workshop—it felt like I just happened to meet a group of really lovely people.”

And honestly, I almost teared up.
Because this was what we set out to do.

Not to “gather people,” but to gently design a space where real connection could happen.
Not to tell people what to say—but to make them want to speak.

If you’re also looking for an experience that leaves a trace, we’d love to talk.

This class isn’t just about food or photos.
It’s about creating a small shift inside.
Something soft. Something shared.
Something that makes you quietly think:

“I didn’t expect to feel this connected.”

We offer a customized version for companies, and a public class open to individual participants every month.
If you’re someone who values meaningful interactions, warm atmosphere, and light cultural immersion—
We’d love for you to join us.
